Submissions
Due to the large number of interventions already accepted for review, NREPP will not be accepting new submissions until October 1, 2009.
If you are a researcher or developer who has designed and tested an intervention to prevent or treat substance abuse or mental health disorders, you may wish to consider submitting your intervention to NREPP for review. Submitting your intervention not only helps SAMHSA continually expand and improve NREPP, it also gives your program or practice additional exposure in an objective format that potential purchasers and the general public may find helpful.
If your intervention is not currently included in NREPP and you would like to apply for a review, please read the instructions below on how to submit an application packet.
If your intervention already has been accepted for review, please see the Review Process page for information on next steps.
How To Submit an Intervention to NREPP
- Find out when the next open submission period will be held. Each submission period (typically 3 or 4 months long and falling at the beginning of the SAMHSA fiscal year) will be announced on this Web site. You can also check the Federal Register periodically for announcements.
- Determine whether your intervention is appropriate for submission.
First, confirm that your intervention meets NREPP's three minimum requirements:
- The intervention demonstrates one or more positive outcomes (p ≤ .05) in mental health and/or substance use behavior among individuals, communities, or populations.
- Intervention results have been published in a peer-reviewed publication or documented in a comprehensive evaluation report.
- Documentation of the intervention and its proper implementation (e.g., manuals, process guides, tools, training materials) is available to the public to facilitate dissemination.
- Interventions receive 1 priority point if their primary targeted outcome(s) are in one or more of the priority areas established by SAMHSA's three Centers. SAMSHA's current priority areas are announced periodically in the Federal Register (see June 4, 2007, Federal Register for most recent announcement).
- Interventions receive 1 additional priority point if they have been evaluated using a quasi-experimental or experimental study design. Such studies may include a pre/post design with a comparison or control group or a longitudinal/time series design. Time series designs must include at least three preintervention or baseline measurements and at least three postintervention or follow-up measurements.
- Create an application packet that includes the following documentation:
- A representative selection of research articles, evaluation reports, grant final reports, and replication studies demonstrating one or more positive outcomes (p ≤ .05) related to mental health and/or substance use behaviors
- A list of dissemination materials that are available to the public (e.g. manuals, process guides, tools, training materials, quality assurance protocols)
- A materials catalog
- The program Web site URL (if applicable)
- Send the application packet to NREPP. The address will be posted during the open submission period.
- NREPP will contact you after the submission period closes to let you know if your intervention has been accepted for review. If it is not accepted, you are welcome to resubmit the application packet during the next open submission period. Accepted interventions are placed in a queue to await scheduling of a review. Once NREPP is ready to schedule the review, NREPP staff will contact you to set up a kick-off call. Please see the Review Process page for next steps.
